May 2017

In May 2017, The Medill Justice Project won three Peter Lisagor Awards for Exemplary Journalism for our multimedia investigations of the Tonia Miller case, the William Thomas “Tommy” Zeigler case and the death penalty. The Chicago Headline Club, one of the largest chapters of the national Society of Professional Journalists, presented the awards to the best professional journalists in Illinois and parts of Indiana. In the past six years, MJP has won 12 Lisagor awards and been named a finalist for 25 for our investigative, feature and deadline reporting. In total, since 2011, MJP has won or been named a finalist for about 75 journalism awards in national and local competitions open to both students and professionals.
